Damaged denture? Here’s when to act

Broken denture

If your denture cracks or chips, it’s considered broken and needs repaired.

Hairline fractures

Fine cracks in the base are an early warning sign that your denture needs fixed.

Sore spots

Rubbing, pinching or pressure usually means your denture needs attention.

Difficulty chewing

If you have trouble chewing or speaking, it usually means dentures are no longer fitting.

Still have questions?

Get answers here, then come see us. We’re ready when you are.

A repair fixes damage—like a crack, chip or broken tooth—so your denture works properly again. A reline refreshes the inside of your denture so it fits your gums more comfortably as your mouth changes. At your visit, we’ll let you know which option is right for you.

We know it’s tempting to try, but denture repairs really do need to be done by a dental professional. Glues and DIY kits aren’t made for dentures and can damage them or change the way they fit in your mouth.

If something breaks or doesn’t feel right, bring your denture to us instead. We’ll take a careful look, explain what we can do and in many offices can repair it for you the same day.

Denture repairs at Aspen Dental start at $49 per repair², and replacement dentures start at $499 per arch⁴. Once we’ve looked at your dentures, we’ll walk you through a personalized treatment plan and let you know what your visit will cost—before any work begins.

Your local Aspen Dental care team can also review how your insurance may help and talk with you about financing through 3rd-party lenders, so you can choose a payment option that works for your budget.

⁴Starting at price is based on a Basic single arch denture and is available to new and existing denture wearers. Additional charges for relines and other required dentistry services, including extractions.

If your denture is cracked, chipped or feels loose, it’s best to treat it like a dental emergency and give it a break until we’ve taken a look. A damaged denture may not stay in place the way it should and can rub or cause sore spots.

Call your local Aspen Dental office and let us know what’s going on—we’ll talk you through what’s safe for now and work to get you in quickly, often with same-day or next-day emergency care in many offices.

Caring for them the same way you’d care for any denture helps them stay comfortable and in good shape:

  • Clean them every day with a soft denture brush and denture-safe cleanser

  • Rinse them after meals when you can

  • Soak them in water or denture solution when they’re not in your mouth

  • Avoid hot water, bleach, whitening toothpaste or other harsh cleaners

  • Take them out at night
