The word embezzlement comes to mind. I had an appointment for my teeth to be cleaned, which I've done every 6 months for over 30 years. It was my 2nd or 3rd time to get my teeth cleaned at Aspen from Rajiv Tuladhar. The previous two visits were uneventful, and I felt my teeth were cleaned well. This last time was a different experience. While waiting for my appointment I paid the $119, to get that task out-of-the-way because they're past my appointment time. While in the chair of the dental hygienist, Rajiv Tuladhar, tells me after looking at my gums that he cannot clean my teeth in a regular manner. He must clean it below the gums. I ask how much more is it. He says he doesn't know. I say I should probably know ahead of time. I already paid for a regular teeth cleaning. I believe with all my heart he would've allowed me to get my teeth, cleaned the way he was suggesting and he should know damn well how much more it would cost. He goes off to the front office to find out. He comes back says they're busy. I wait 5 more minutes & he goes back and brings an office worker. She tells me cleaning below the gums is $1,136, like it's no big deal. I say how about we just do the regular teeth cleaning this time and we'll talk about this "care plan" for next time. Mr. Tuladhar says "friend, I cannot do a regular teeth cleaning." I don't feel like he's my "friend," I feel like I'm about to be ripped off and potentially not get the correct care that I need. The same office worker gives me a Post-it note with some numbers on it as my "refund." I asked for a printout of what they thought was a necessary teeth cleaning. Just so I have the proof of the $1,136 cost. I go out to my car. I have a bad feeling about the Post-it note, so I go back in and insist that they give me something more official telling me I'm going to get my $119 back. She indicates she doesn't know how to do that. I insist that she figures it out. Then she is miraculously able to print a receipt for a refund. Luckily, I call another dentist, and I am able to get in the next day. It is a reputable dentist who's been in Fort Walton for decades. I get an exam, x-rays, and my teeth cleaned. I don't say anything to them because I don't want to bias them. I'm a mathematician/statistician; this is an important thing to do if you want truthful opinion/results. My history is that I had braces twice (as a child and leader as an adult, when I could afford the jaw surgery required to make my front teeth touch.) In 30 years, I've had one cavity and a chipped tooth that resulted in a crown because the tooth was predominantly made up of a 40-year-old filling. Aspen dental is not interested in caring for you, but they are certainly interested in making a lot of money off of you. I absolutely will not go back and I recommend that you find another dentist in Fort Walton Beach Florida. It is a shame, I really thought Aspen was going to be a good place to get my teeth cleaned, etc. I feel like Aspen is like a big box store that the employees are trained to push an agenda versus a mom and pop establishment here to provide good service for a community.
