My visit with Dr Sam and all the staff at Aspen dental has been absolutely amazing. I have been putting off going to the dentist as I knew I had a number of issues and was feeling a little embarrassed. They all made me feel extremely comfortable and worked with me on putting together a plan of action that allowed me to address all the issues. Today I feel so much better with no pain and feeling confident to smile with a new and brighter smile. Thank you
Excellent experience
Great experience! I've had difficulty finding local dental care post retirement. Even when offices advertise they accept insurances, when I would call to make an appointment, it was a different story. Aspen dental has a very affordable savings program that reduces costs considerably. Be cautious when reading reviews prior to your visit. Human nature is to post negative comments. And, the review may not reflect your local office. It was very clear the staff at Horseheads Aspen Dental are taking care to provide a positive experience for their patients. Now let's mention the staff. Both on the phone and in person, every interaction was pleasant. I had trouble finding their office so I called enroute and the receptionist happily stayed on the phone until I parked. One thought may be to explain where the office is located prior to the initial visit. I didn't get the receptionist's name. She had long dark hair. Robin and Heather did my xrays. Both were very sweet and worked well together. Heather is newer and took great care on obtaining my images with the guidance of Robin. Lauren did my exam and explained everything clearly. She was very professional even taking time to explain what she was doing as she charted. Dr. Kar also was very professional and kind. And, finally McKenzie did a great job explaining next steps in my care and making sure my next appointment fit my needs. So, take those negative comments with a grain of salt! Spend 39 dollars for your initial visit and let the staff make their own impression! Good job Aspen Dental in Horseheads👏👏

For a visible tooth that can be removed easily, a simple extraction is typically recommended. This type of treatment is used if your tooth has a large cavity or is too damaged for a filling or crown.
2
Surgical extractions
When a tooth is broken off at your gum line, impacted or difficult to access, a small incision is made to remove it in sections.
3

Wisdom teeth are often removed because they can grow sideways or become stuck under your gum line. Removing them prevents crowding, swelling and recurring infections.

With local anesthesia, your Aspen Dental provider will keep you as comfortable possible. During your procedure, you may feel pressure as your tooth is removed. After your procedure, mild sensitivity is common and should fade after a short period of time. Your provider will provide you detailed after-care instructions and, if needed, medication to manage any discomfort.

Most patients feel much better within a few days. Surgical extractions, especially for wisdom teeth, may require a week or more to fully recovery. Healing is different for everyone and depends on things like your overall health, the complexity of your extraction and how well you follow after-care instructions.

You can usually remove gauze once bleeding has stopped, which may take a few hours after your procedure. Your provider will give you specific instructions to help you heal safely. It’s important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure you fully recover.

If your procedure involves sedation, fasting for several hours ahead of your visit may be required. Your provider will let you know exactly how to prepare. For simple extractions with local anesthesia only, fasting is usually not necessary. If you have questions, reach out to your local Aspen Dental office for further details.

Soft foods are recommended for the first 24 to 48 hours. Options include yogurt, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, soft pastas and smoothies. As healing progresses, you can reintroduce solid foods when it feels right for you. Make sure to avoid crunchy, sticky or very hot foods until cleared by your provider.

Follow all after-care instructions given to you by your provider. Typically, you’ll be guided to: Avoid smoking or vaping, keep your head elevated, use ice to reduce swelling. Once cleared by your provider, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing gently around the area of your extraction.
