Very good staff who cares
They’re always amazing when you’re there. They make you feel comfortable
Like most people, going to the dentist is something I tend to put off until the last possible second. Unfortunately that led to me developing an abscess over a broken tooth that went from mild pain to DEFCON 1 literally overnight. My regular dentist couldn’t get me in for an emergency extraction, so I frantically started searching for emergency dentists and found Aspen Dental. I was able to book online and get a same-day exam, which confirmed that I had a pretty nasty abscess over a broken tooth. The dentist explained my options and let me know they could perform the surgical extraction the same day. Just knowing I only had to get through a few more hours of that pain was an enormous relief. While they checked my insurance, the office manager put together an estimate for the exam, x-rays, and surgical extraction. I was honestly bracing myself for a huge bill, so when he told me my out-of-pocket cost after insurance, I truly nearly cried. It ended up being less than what I’d spend going out to dinner. They were extremely busy that day but still managed to squeeze me in later for the procedure. Everyone kept apologizing for the short waits here and there, but I was just grateful they were able to get me in at all. I would have waited all night for relief from that kind of pain. The procedure itself was exactly what you’d expect from a surgical extraction, but the dentist talked me through every step and the technician kept reminding me to breathe. It was over quickly, and the dentist said he was able to remove all of the broken tooth and roots. Even while I was still numb, I could already feel the pressure and pain starting to ease. The entire experience was so much smoother than I ever expected from an emergency dental visit. Everyone was incredibly kind and compassionate, and it genuinely felt like they cared about getting me out of pain. I believe my dentist was Dr. Hopfensperger (they called him Dr. Hops). I’m sorry I don’t remember everyone’s names because the whole day was a blur, but the technicians, receptionist, and office manager were all wonderful. I’ve already scheduled my next appointment to take care of some other work (hopefully before it turns into another emergency), and I’ve already recommended this office to several people, including my mom. I will also schedule my routine cleanings with this office when I’m due. Learn from my mistake and don’t wait until something becomes an emergency. But if you do find yourself in that situation, I can’t recommend this office enough.

What are dental fillings?

A tooth filling is a restorative treatment that repairs a tooth that has been damaged by decay or minor fractures. When getting a filling, your dentist will remove any decay in your tooth and then fill the leftover space with either composite resin, glass ionomer or amalgam. This restores the shape, function and strength of your tooth while helping to minimize any discomfort or sensitivity.

Types of dental fillings

Composite fillings

The top choice for tooth restoration—a resin composite filling is made to match your tooth’s shade for a natural appearance.

Glass ionomer fillings

Commonly used for small cavities, these fillings release fluoride, which can help prevent further tooth decay.

Amalgam fillings

Silver tooth fillings (amalgam fillings) are durable, cost-effective and can contain metals such as silver, tin and copper.

You may need a dental filling if you have tooth pain, visible holes, dark spots, or sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods. Getting treatment early can prevent more serious dental problems.

Tooth-colored composite fillings are often best for front teeth. They blend in naturally, bond securely to your tooth and provide strong support in visible areas.

Yes. Modern tooth-colored fillings are strong and resist normal wear. While they may not last as long as metal fillings in areas of your mouth you frequently chew in, with proper care, they can last many years.

Wondering, “do cavity fillings hurt?” No, they don’t. During your treatment, we keep you comfortable with a local anesthetic. You may feel pressure, but should not feel pain. Any mild sensitivity afterward usually goes away within a few days.

Avoid chewing with the tooth that was filled until the numbness wears off. Brush and floss gently around the area as normal, and avoid sticky or hard foods for the first day. Maintain regular oral hygiene and schedule routine dental checkups to keep the filling in good condition.
