I want to share that Dr Pena and her wonderful staff have changed my review for Aspen Dental. My first experience at another location was not great. This office is sooooo different! They are warm, professional, experienced and extremely concerned for their patients. I cannot stress enough how their consideration for my well being has affected my emotional state of mind regarding dentists. Thank you so much Dr Pena! It has been a joy meeting and dealing with you.
This is my first time going to a dentist since 2020. I was very nervous and anxious, but I really appreciate how professional and courteous the staff was. They explained every thing that I would need for my specific care plan and moving forward they also helped me with getting financial assistance, which was greatly needed. Dental care without insurance can be very expensive so I am thankful and grateful to the team as well as a team leader for all their help. I definitely recommend Aspen Dental to anyone in need of dental care.
I write a review already but great place. They got me in right away and everyone was great. Felt very comfortable at office. Dr. cancelled her lunch so she could take care of me. I have many more visits but looking forward to going back. I give them 5 stars for sure. So I've been going there 2 months already with appointments and the staff has been incredible! I highly recommend Aspen Dental in Skokie!

Root canal in Skokie, IL

If you’re dealing with ongoing tooth pain or infection, a root canal may be the recommended treatment. At Aspen Dental in Skokie, our care team provides root canal treatment close to home—so you don’t have to wait to feel relief.

What is a root canal?

A root canal is an endodontic treatment that cleans infection inside your tooth so we can save it instead of taking it out. If left untreated, the pulp that has nerves or tissue may die as a result of infection. Left untreated, an infected tooth can cause damage and lead to other issues. At Aspen Dental, your comfort is our priority at every step—we’ll explain everything and keep you comfortable throughout the process. If cost is what’s holding you back, don’t delay your visit—we accept most insurances and financing options—so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

What’s the process of getting a root canal at Aspen Dental?

At Aspen Dental, your comfort is our priority at every step:
1
Initial assessment
We examine the tooth, take X-rays and explain your care plan.
2
Local anesthesia
The affected tooth and surrounding area are numbed completely, so you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.
3
Removing the infection
We carefully remove the infected pulp.
4
Cleaning and shaping
The inside of the tooth is cleaned and prepared.
5
Sealing the tooth
A biocompatible filling material seals the canals to protect the tooth from further infection.
6
Restoring the tooth
Most patients need a crown placed afterward to strengthen and protect the treated tooth for long-term use.

Do I need root canal treatment?

You might need root canal treatment if you notice: tooth pain that doesn’t go away, sensitivity to hot or cold even after the infection is gone, pain when chewing, a cracked or broken tooth exposing the nerve, swelling in the gums or jaw, or a tooth that looks darker than the rest. These are all signs of infection, and by treating it quickly, Aspen Dental could save your tooth.
