Preparation, procedure and recovery
Tooth discomfort can interrupt your day and make even simple things hard to enjoy. If a tooth can’t be saved, a gentle tooth extraction can help you feel better and protect your long-term oral health.
At Aspen Dental we make the process simple and comfortable. From your first visit through recovery, our team is here to guide you with care, clarity and compassion.
A tooth extraction is a routine dental procedure where a tooth is gently removed from its socket. It’s often recommended when a tooth is too damaged or infected to repair safely.
Removing a problem tooth can relieve discomfort, reduce the risk of infection and help keep your other teeth healthy. At Aspen Dental your dentist will explain each step, answer your questions and make sure you feel at ease throughout your visit.
There are times when a tooth extraction is the healthiest choice for your smile. Your Aspen Dental dentist may recommend a tooth extraction if you have:
A fractured or cracked tooth that can’t be restored
Advanced gum disease that causes teeth to loosen
An impacted tooth, including wisdom teeth
Crowded teeth that affect your bite or alignment
Sometimes discomfort can appear suddenly and needs quick attention. Aspen Dental offers same day appointments and accepts walk-ins for urgent extractions so you can get care when you need it most.
Your Aspen Dental team will examine your tooth, explain every option and help you make a decision that protects your health and comfort. Schedule your appointment today to get started.

At Aspen Dental every smile has a story. Sometimes a tooth extraction is just one step in restoring your oral health and confidence. In some cases, your extraction may be a simple procedure, while more complex situations—like impacted teeth or damaged roots—might require oral surgery performed by your Aspen Dental team.
A tooth extraction can also make space for dentures, dental implants or bridges that bring back full function and a natural look. Wisdom teeth are also often removed to prevent crowding or infection before they cause problems.
Here at Aspen Dental your dentist will walk you through how an extraction fits into your care plan, answer your questions and help you move forward with a personalized approach that keeps your smile healthy for years to come.
A little preparation can make your visit feel easier.
Share your full medical history and any medications you take so your Aspen Dental dentist can plan your care safely. If you’re feeling a little nervous ask about sedation options that can help you stay relaxed. Before your visit it’s a good idea to have soft foods like soup, yogurt and pasta ready at home along with ice packs and over-the-counter relief to make your recovery more comfortable.
Your Aspen Dental dentist will review what to expect, answer questions and confirm that you’re comfortable. If sedation is planned, arrange for a ride home. Follow your pre-visit instructions about food and drink, wear something comfortable and avoid smoking or vaping.
Your doctor will check that everything looks healthy and provide clean gauze to manage any bleeding. Some swelling or tenderness is normal and should improve within a few days. Most patients see gum healing in about one to two weeks. You’ll leave with clear aftercare instructions to support your recovery.

Everyone heals a little differently, and that’s completely normal. How quickly you recover after your tooth extraction can depend on a few things, like the complexity of your extraction, your overall health and how closely you follow your aftercare instructions provided by your Aspen Dental team.
Most people notice their gums feeling better within one to two weeks, though deeper healing can take a little longer. Following your Aspen Dental aftercare plan—keeping the area clean, resting as directed and avoiding smoking—helps your mouth heal comfortably and sets you up for a smooth recovery.
Replacing missing teeth is an important step in keeping your mouth healthy and your smile strong. When a tooth is removed, the open space can cause nearby teeth to shift out of place, which may affect your bite and alignment over time. Filling that space also helps protect your jawbone, since tooth roots naturally stimulate bone growth. Without that stimulation, the bone can begin to shrink.
Replacing missing teeth can also make it easier to speak clearly and smile with confidence. Aspen Dental offers several ways to restore your smile, including dental implants, dentures and dental bridges. Your Aspen Dental dentist will take the time to explain each option and help you find the solution that feels right for you.
At Aspen Dental we believe in keeping care clear and accessible. The cost of a tooth extraction can vary depending on a few factors, such as your tooth’s condition and the type of procedure and your treatment plan.
Tooth condition – Teeth that are broken or impacted may require a more complex procedure.
Procedure complexity – A simple extraction takes less time, while surgical extractions can involve additional steps.
Number of teeth – The cost depends on how many teeth need to be removed.
Sedation type – Local anesthesia is typically less costly than sedation or general anesthesia.
Exams and X-rays – Additional imaging or evaluations may affect your total cost.
Provider type – Your procedure may be performed by a general dentist or an oral surgeon depending on your needs.

Most people can start eating soft solid foods within a day or two. Begin with easy options like eggs, yogurt or mashed potatoes and move to more textured foods as your comfort improves. Your Aspen Dental dentist will let you know when it’s safe to return to your usual meals.
Stick to soft foods that are gentle on your mouth and easy to chew. Smoothies, applesauce, oatmeal, soup and soft pasta are great choices. Drink plenty of water, but skip using a straw for the first few days since suction can disturb healing.
Keep gauze in place until bleeding slows, which usually happens within a few hours. Replace it with clean gauze as directed by your Aspen Dental team. If bleeding continues, bite gently on new gauze for about 30 minutes. If it doesn’t slow down, call your Aspen Dental office for guidance.
Your Aspen Dental team will make sure you’re comfortable before treatment begins. You shouldn’t feel sharp discomfort during the procedure, though it’s normal to have some tenderness or swelling afterward. You’ll receive a clear aftercare plan, including ice and medication instructions, to help you recover comfortably. If soreness doesn’t improve, reach out to your Aspen Dental office.
Tooth extraction can stop pain from severe decay or infection, protect nearby teeth and gums, remove crowded or impacted teeth that affect your bite, and allow you to move forward with dental bridges, dental implants, or dentures when needed.
Complications are rare, especially when you follow your Aspen Dental aftercare plan. Risks may include dry socket, infection, prolonged bleeding or irritation around the area. If you notice swelling, fever, a bad taste or bleeding that doesn’t stop, call your Aspen Dental office right away so we can help you heal safely.
