Don’t ignore tooth pain! Ongoing discomfort and pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers, but can the sign of lost filling, an infection, or issues that get worse with time.

These issues should be addressed immediately. If left untreated, the damage to your tooth can worsen (and rough edges of your tooth can cause damage to your mouth).

If a tooth has been knocked out, immediately pick it up by the crown (the chewing surface). The sooner you come in, the more likely we can help restore your knocked-out tooth.

Tip: Gently rinse in a bowl of water or milk without scrubbing it, and attempt to place it back in the socket, if possible. If you cannot reinsert it, keep your tooth moist—ideally in milk—and come in right away.

Bleeding or swollen gums can be early signs of infection or inflammation and shouldn’t be ignored.

Tip: Applying gentle pressure with clean gauze may help until you’re seen. Getting care promptly can help prevent infection from spreading and avoid more serious health concerns.
